Fondé en 1998 par la mécène Heeja K Chung dans le prolongement de la Daewoo Foundation, Art Sonje Center est l’une des principales institutions de Séoul consacrées à l’art contemporain sans collection permanente. Son bâtiment de marbre, à Samcheong-dong, abrite des galeries d’exposition, un auditorium, le cinéma CineCode Sonje, un restaurant et une boutique d’art. Le centre privilégie les démarches expérimentales qui repoussent les frontières de l’art visuel, de l’architecture, du design et du cinéma, complétées par des rencontres, des projections et des programmes éducatifs.
