Le musée d'art moderne classique de la Nationalgalerie, issu de la collection du marchand d'art Heinz Berggruen, rassemble plus de 100 œuvres de Picasso ainsi que des ensembles majeurs de Paul Klee, Henri Matisse et Alberto Giacometti. Il est installé dans le bâtiment ouest conçu par Stüler, face au Schloss Charlottenburg. L'institution est fermée depuis le 5 septembre 2022 pour une rénovation complète du bâtiment Stüler, et aucune date de réouverture n'a encore été annoncée. Durant les travaux, la collection fait l'objet d'une tournée internationale (dernièrement présentée au Museum of Fine Arts, Houston jusqu'au 13 septembre 2026) ; aucune pièce n'est actuellement visible à Berlin. La Sammlung Scharf-Gerstenberg voisine reste quant à elle ouverte.
