Inaugurado en 1993 a unos pasos del National Mall, el United States Holocaust Memorial Museum es el memorial oficial y museo vivo de la nación dedicado a los seis millones de judíos y a los millones de víctimas más de la persecución nazi. Distribuida en tres plantas, su Permanent Exhibition recorre el Holocausto en orden cronológico, desde el ascenso del nazismo al poder en 1933 hasta la liberación y sus consecuencias, mediante más de 900 objetos históricos, filmaciones de archivo y testimonios grabados de supervivientes. El edificio diseñado por James Ingo Freed resulta deliberadamente sobrecogedor, con detalles en ladrillo, acero y vidrio que evocan la arquitectura de los campos de concentración, y culmina en el espacio hexagonal del Hall of Remembrance y su llama eterna. La entrada es gratuita; el museo ofrece además una exposición infantil, muestras temporales y un destacado programa de investigación y prevención del genocidio.

Note: tickets for the current Permanent Exhibition will not be available during construction of the new permanent exhibition, beginning January 2027.
