La sede principal del Wien Museum en Karlsplatz, proyectada por Oswald Haerdtl en los años cincuenta, reabrió sus puertas el 6 de diciembre de 2023 tras una profunda remodelación y ampliación a cargo de Certov, Winkler + Ruck, que incorporó dos plantas y un nuevo pabellón de entrada. Su exposición permanente y gratuita, «Wien. Meine Geschichte», recorre la historia vienesa a lo largo de tres plantas y 1700 piezas, desde los primeros asentamientos hasta la actualidad. Entre sus obras maestras destacan el retrato de Emilie Flöge realizado por Gustav Klimt en 1902, una maqueta de cinco metros de St. Stephen's Cathedral y Poldi, la emblemática ballena de diez metros del Prater. La última planta alberga exposiciones temporales y una cafetería con acceso a una terraza gratuita con vistas al centro de la ciudad.
