Inaugurado en 2001, el Leopold Museum nació a partir de la colección que Rudolf y Elisabeth Leopold reunieron a lo largo de cinco décadas, constituida junto con la República de Austria y el Oesterreichische Nationalbank. Sus más de 5000 obras se centran en el arte austríaco de la primera mitad del siglo XX, desde la Secesión hasta el expresionismo. Alberga la colección de Egon Schiele más extensa del mundo, con más de 220 piezas, junto a pinturas fundamentales de Gustav Klimt, Oskar Kokoschka y Richard Gerstl. Su emblemática exposición permanente «Viena 1900: El nacimiento del modernismo» («Vienna 1900: Birth of Modernism») las contextualiza entre el mobiliario, el diseño y las corrientes intelectuales de la época.
