Construido para el emperador Carlos VI entre 1723 y 1726 según el proyecto de Johann Bernhard Fischer von Erlach y concluido por su hijo Joseph Emanuel, el State Hall es una de las salas de biblioteca históricas más espectaculares del mundo. Bajo la cúpula pintada al fresco por Daniel Gran con la apoteosis del emperador, estanterías de nogal albergan cerca de 200 000 volúmenes impresos entre 1501 y 1850, entre ellos los aproximadamente 15 000 libros de la biblioteca del príncipe Eugenio de Saboya. Estatuas de mármol de los hermanos Strudel y cuatro globos de Coronelli completan la sala, que también acoge las grandes exposiciones temporales de la biblioteca.
