El Seoul Museum of History recorre la transformación de la ciudad, desde Hanyang, capital de la dinastía Joseon, pasando por el Imperio coreano y el dominio colonial japonés, hasta la actual República de Corea. Sus salas permanentes albergan alrededor de 250.000 objetos, cerca de la mitad donados por ciudadanos, además de una maqueta urbana a gran escala y recursos multimedia que imaginan el futuro de Seúl. El museo está junto al palacio Gyeonghuigung, en el distrito céntrico de Jongno-gu, y organiza periódicamente exposiciones temporales gratuitas sobre fotografía, historia urbana y cultura material de Seúl.
