Inaugurado en 2012 junto a Gwanghwamun Square, este museo recorre la trayectoria de Corea del Sur desde finales del siglo XIX hasta nuestros días. Su History Hall permanente se articula en tres secciones cronológicas dedicadas a la resistencia durante la época colonial, la reconstrucción de posguerra y la democratización, y el ascenso del país hasta convertirse en una potencia económica y cultural mundial. En el Experience Hall, los visitantes pueden explorar distintas décadas a través de objetos cotidianos. Además, un programa cambiante de exposiciones temporales examina momentos y temas concretos de la historia moderna de Corea.
