El edificio principal Seosomun del Seoul Museum of Art se encuentra detrás del palacio Deoksugung, en el centro de Seúl. Su fachada renacentista de 1928, que perteneció a un juzgado, se conserva como entrada a un ala moderna de exposiciones añadida en 2002. Desde su apertura en 1988, SeMA se ha consolidado como la principal institución de arte contemporáneo de la ciudad y organiza grandes exposiciones de arte coreano e internacional en tres plantas de salas de exposición y una sala en el sótano. La fachada arqueada del antiguo juzgado está protegida como patrimonio: en 2006 fue declarada Bien Cultural de Seúl n.º 237.
