Susan Meiselas: Nicaragua, History, Memory

En cartel21 de octubre de 2026 – 7 de marzo de 2027·10 €

Meiselas's 1978-79 Sandinista revolution photographs and how they took on a life of their own on objects and murals: 100+ works, documents and film clips, curated by Clément Chéroux.

Más en París

In June 1978 near Monimbó, Meiselas photographed young Sandinistas practising with contact bombs. By 30 July it was on the cover of the New York Times Magazine. By 1982 her Molotov Man was a red stencil on a wall in Estelí, calling up a militia against the contras.

That drift, between what a photograph recorded and what it came to stand for, is the show. Meiselas covered the uprising against Somoza, then kept going back for four decades, finding her pictures on T-shirts, stamps, matchboxes and murals. You see the insurrection first, then that long work of return: over a hundred works, documents and film clips in the Cube, some never shown before, plus pieces by four other artists, including Alfredo Jaar.

It is for anyone who takes pictures and wonders, as L'Art de la photo put it, what becomes of an image once published. Tickets are €10 (€6 reduced, free under 18) and cover Martine Franck in the Tube gallery too. Tuesday to Sunday, 11am to 7pm.
