Diseñado por Frank Lloyd Wright e inaugurado en 1959, el Guggenheim es uno de los edificios más emblemáticos del siglo XX: una rampa en espiral continua que se enrosca alrededor de un atrio iluminado por claraboyas. Fundado en 1939 como el Museum of Non-Objective Painting, alberga unas 8.000 obras de arte impresionista, posimpresionista, moderno y contemporáneo, con un fondo destacado de Vasily Kandinsky y la célebre Thannhauser Collection. El edificio forma parte de la declaración de Patrimonio de la Humanidad de la UNESCO dedicada a la arquitectura de Wright.
