Χτισμένο μεταξύ 1843 και 1855 σε σχέδια του Friedrich August Stüler, το Neues Museum ερειπώθηκε κατά τον Δεύτερο Παγκόσμιο Πόλεμο και άνοιξε ξανά τις πύλες του το 2009, έπειτα από την υποδειγματική αποκατάσταση του David Chipperfield που άφησε ορατά τα ίχνη της ιστορίας του. Σήμερα φιλοξενεί τη συλλογή του Egyptian Museum and Papyrus Collection –με επίκεντρο τη διάσημη προτομή της βασίλισσας Νεφερτίτης– καθώς και το Museum of Prehistory and Early History, όπου ξεχωρίζουν ο Χρυσός Κώνος του Βερολίνου (Berlin Gold Hat) και οι τρωικοί αρχαιολογικοί θησαυροί του Schliemann. Αποτελεί αναπόσπαστο τμήμα του συγκροτήματος Museum Island, το οποίο έχει ανακηρυχθεί Μνημείο Παγκόσμιας Κληρονομιάς της UNESCO.
