In Samuel Fiedler's 2101, alcohol is banned, and a hidden resistance drinks from hand-formed porcelain goblets fitted with stainless-steel parts, grape seeds burned into the clay as an offering. It is one of twelve answers that Berlin University of the Arts (UdK) students gave to one question: how will people eat and drink in 2101?

The answers are ceramic, mostly porcelain, some first imagined with AI tools: a mushroom-based drinking ritual for a warming planet, a tea set for herb foragers in a concrete megacity, plates that strangers swap and later have to tell apart by tiny pattern differences. Anyone who has lived in a Berlin WG has played that last game with the mugs. There is no room of their own: you find the pieces among the museum's historical porcelain and faience, beside the tableware of earlier centuries.

It's a small show, included in the €10 museum ticket (€5 reduced). The museum is closed Mondays and Tuesdays, and a curator's tour runs on 6 November at 15:30.

  • Artefacts of Resistance, Samuel Fiedler

Look for drinking goblets of hand-formed porcelain joined to industrial stainless-steel parts, with grape seeds burned into the clay, made for a 2101 that bans alcohol.

  • Cielo, Jannes Bock

A matte bisque-porcelain plate set that stacks into a table sculpture, so diners uncover a tasting menu layer by layer from the top down.

  • The Open Seat, Jan Cichon

Small patterned sharing plates for a table of strangers; at the end, each guest has to find their own plate again by subtle differences in the pattern.

  • D'UOMO, Erik Kollmorgen and Yuval Kazes

A partially glazed porcelain singing bowl, imagined as a gift at birth fifty years after a third world war, its markings giving each owner's bowl its own tone.

  • Fungen, Seyoung Chon

Thin porcelain drinking bowls with a built-in structure that sends mushroom-derived oil up to the surface when water is poured in.
