Χτισμένο το 1877–81 από τους Martin Gropius και Heino Schmieden ως μουσείο διακοσμητικών και εφαρμοσμένων τεχνών του Βερολίνου, το Gropius Bau υπέστη σοβαρές ζημιές το 1945 και άνοιξε ξανά τις πύλες του το 1981 μετά από αποκατάσταση. Σήμερα τελεί υπό τη διαχείριση των Berliner Festspiele και δεν διαθέτει μόνιμη συλλογή: διοργανώνει μεγάλης κλίμακας περιοδικές εκθέσεις και περφόρμανς σύγχρονων καλλιτεχνών.
