Der Jeu de Paume, untergebracht in einem Pavillon im Stil des Second Empire an der Nordwestecke des Jardin des Tuileries, wurde 1861 als Real-Tennis-Platz errichtet und im Laufe der Jahrzehnte zu einer Galerie umgewandelt. Seit 2004 ist er Frankreichs bedeutendste Institution für Fotografie und bewegte Bilder und zeigt große Retrospektiven und zeitgenössische Auftragswerke, anstatt eine Dauersammlung zu unterhalten. Frühere Einzelausstellungen widmeten sich unter anderem Cindy Sherman, Martin Parr und William Kentridge und ziehen jährlich mehr als 300.000 Besucher an.
