Hillwood foi a última residência de Marjorie Merriweather Post — herdeira da indústria de cereais, colecionadora e filantropa —, que adquiriu este palacete de estilo georgiano da década de 1920 em 1955 e o transformou em casa-museu, abrindo ao público em 1977.
