Fundado em 1961 sob o lema «Art in Life», o Suntory Museum of Art reúne cerca de 3 000 obras de arte japonesa – entre peças de laca, cerâmica, vidro, tecidos tingidos e pinturas –, incluindo um Tesouro Nacional e numerosas Propriedades Culturais Importantes e Obras de Arte Importantes. Desde 2007, ocupa um espaço projetado por Kengo Kuma no terceiro andar da Tokyo Midtown Galleria, em Roppongi, depois de ter tido instalações anteriores em Marunouchi e Akasaka, e reabriu em 2020 após uma renovação. Em vez de uma apresentação permanente fixa, o museu organiza um programa rotativo de exposições especiais temáticas, com obras das suas próprias coleções e empréstimos externos.
