Inaugurado em 2016 no bairro de Ryogoku, onde Katsushika Hokusai passou a maior parte da vida, este museu reúne mais de 1.800 pinturas, esboços, xilogravuras e objetos pessoais do artista. O edifício angular, revestido de espelhos, foi projetado pela arquiteta Kazuyo Sejima, vencedora do Prémio Pritzker. No 4.º piso, a galeria permanente "AURORA" percorre a vida e as técnicas de Hokusai por meio de réplicas em alta definição à escala real e da reconstrução do seu ateliê, enquanto as exposições temporárias apresentam, em sistema rotativo, obras originais da coleção.
