Fundado em 1980 a partir da coleção particular do empresário Seizo Ōta V, o Ōta Memorial Museum of Art abriga uma das mais importantes coleções de gravuras ukiyo-e do Japão – mais de 12 000 obras, de artistas como Utamaro e Hokusai a Hiroshige e muitos outros. Situado a poucos passos da Takeshita Street, em Harajuku, o museu não mantém uma exposição permanente: em seu lugar, apresenta um programa variável de mostras temáticas, renovadas aproximadamente a cada um ou dois meses. A entrada e os preços variam conforme a exposição, e o museu fecha por alguns dias entre uma mostra e outra para renovar a apresentação.
