O Musée Gustave Moreau ocupa a residência parisiense onde o pintor simbolista Gustave Moreau (1826-1898) viveu e trabalhou, e que ele transformou, em seus últimos anos, num museu dedicado à própria arte. O rés-do-chão e o primeiro andar preservam seus aposentos íntimos, enquanto dois vastos estúdios no último andar, ligados por uma dramática escada em caracol de ferro forjado, exibem, à maneira dos antigos salões, centenas de pinturas, aquarelas e desenhos. A coleção reúne cerca de 1.200 pinturas e aproximadamente 4.800 desenhos, muitos deles esboços e obras inacabadas guardadas em armários sob medida projetados pelo próprio artista. Aberto ao público em 1903, seu layout praticamente não mudou desde então.
