Fundado em 1905 pela rainha D. Amélia, o Museu Nacional dos Coches alberga aquela que considera ser a mais importante coleção de coches de Estado do mundo: mais de 70 veículos históricos, abrangendo quatro séculos. Entre os destaques encontram-se os coches triunfais de 1716 da embaixada portuguesa junto do papa Clemente XI e o landau no qual o rei D. Carlos I foi assassinado, em 1908. Desde 2015, a coleção está patente num novo edifício projetado pelo vencedor do Prémio Pritzker Paulo Mendes da Rocha, em frente à antiga Escola Portuguesa de Arte Equestre, em Belém.
