Fundado em 1810 e instalado desde 1889 num imponente edifício na Invalidenstraße, o Museum für Naturkunde é um dos principais museus de história natural do mundo e um instituto de investigação Leibniz com cerca de 30 milhões de espécimes em acervo. O átrio dos dinossauros é dominado pelo Giraffatitan brancai, o esqueleto montado de dinossauro mais alto do mundo, ao lado do exemplar de Archaeopteryx mais bem preservado de que há registo. Para além dos dinossauros, os visitantes podem percorrer um milhão de exemplares conservados em etanol na Wet Collection, examinar minerais e meteoritos e assistir ao vivo, nas salas de exposição, à digitalização de insetos por investigadores.
