Otwarta w 1968 roku Neue Nationalgalerie to ostatnie dzieło Ludwiga Miesa van der Rohe: monumentalny szklany pawilon zwieńczony lewitującym stalowym dachem, z salami wystawowymi ulokowanymi w podziemiu. Po gruntownej modernizacji przeprowadzonej przez Davida Chipperfielda gmach ponownie powitał gości w 2021 roku. Na dolnym poziomie prezentowana jest należąca do Nationalgalerie kolekcja sztuki XX wieku – od ekspresjonizmu i Berlina lat 20. po powojenną twórczość Wschodu i Zachodu – natomiast przeszklona hala stanowi przestrzeń dla najważniejszych wystaw czasowych.
