Il museo delle culture del mondo di Vienna custodisce oltre 400.000 reperti etnografici e archeologici, dall'unico copricapo di piume dell'antico Messico giunto fino a noi alla collezione polinesiana di James Cook, fino ai bronzi del Benin e al modello di residenza daimyō del periodo Edo giapponese. Fondato come dipartimento di etnologia del museo imperiale di storia naturale e rinominato Weltmuseum Wien nel 2013, ha riaperto nel 2017 con 14 sale espositive nel Corps de Logis della Neue Burg su Heldenplatz. Il percorso permanente affronta apertamente la storia delle acquisizioni viennesi, compresi i contesti coloniali, affiancandosi a mostre temporanee sempre nuove.
