Inauguré en 2005 au sein du Cyrus and Myrtle Katzen Arts Center, sur Ward Circle, l'American University Museum s'étend sur plus de 4 000 mètres carrés répartis sur trois niveaux, ce qui en fait le plus grand espace muséal universitaire de la région. Il propose chaque année près de 24 expositions par cycles saisonniers, avec une prédilection marquée pour l'art contemporain de Washington et de la scène internationale.
