Le SOMPO Museum of Art occupe un bâtiment spectaculaire aux formes courbes et au revêtement d’acier, au pied de la tour du siège de Sompo Japan, à Nishi-Shinjuku. Sa collection s’est constituée à partir d’un legs effectué en 1978 par le peintre japonais Seiji Togo et compte aujourd’hui quelque 640 œuvres. Elle a pour pièce maîtresse les Tournesols de Vincent van Gogh (1888), acquis lors d’une vente aux enchères record organisée par Christie’s en 1987. Le musée conserve également des œuvres de Gauguin, Cézanne, Renoir et Grandma Moses, et propose un programme renouvelé de grandes expositions réunissant des œuvres prêtées.
