Construit en 1883 par l'architecte Ricardo Velázquez Bosco pour l'Exposition nationale des mines, ce pavillon de fer et de verre est le seul vestige de cette manifestation. Dressé aux abords du lac du Retiro Park, il sert aujourd'hui d'antenne d'exposition au Museo Nacional Centro de Arte Reina Sofía, accueillant d'ambitieuses expositions temporaires d'art contemporain en accès libre. Ses briques néoclassiques, ses voûtes vitrées et son décor de céramiques signé Zuloaga font de l'édifice une attraction tout aussi remarquable que les œuvres qu'il abrite.
