Spider webs on display in the Spider Pavilion open-air exhibit

Natural History Museum of Los Angeles County · Exposition Park

Spider Pavilion

En ce moment20 septembre 2026 – 6 décembre 2026·10 $

Seasonal open-air pavilion where visitors walk among hundreds of orb-weaving spiders, plus tarantula and wolf spider habitats.

Some of the webs in here are almost ten feet across. They belong to garden spiders, part of roughly 300 orbweavers the museum released into the pavilion weeks before opening so they had time to build in the bushes and trees.

You walk a path through an open-air garden with webs on both sides and no glass between you and the spiders, which mostly sit still and wait for prey. There are 10 to 15 species: some hand-collected in Louisiana and Florida, giant golden orbweavers from Malaysia, and local ones gathered in L.A. County and taken back there after closing. First comes a den of tarantulas in terrariums, each with a name. One is called Shakira, and she is a Carolina wolf spider.

Museum educators along the path answer questions. The museum says the venom is about as mild as a bee sting, and only if a spider is poked. The $10 timed ticket is on top of general admission (free for members). Open daily 9:30am to 5pm, closed Thanksgiving.

À ne pas manquer

  • The garden spider webs

Look for the biggest webs in the garden, which the museum says can reach almost ten feet in diameter.

  • The spider den

Before the garden, glass habitats hold tarantulas, wolf spiders and huntsman spiders for a close look.

  • Chia, Holly Golightly and Marilyn

Named female tarantulas, a Greenbottle Blue, a Brazilian whiteknee and a Desert Blonde; the museum says females can live 15 to 25 years.

  • The year-round residents

Bold jumping spiders and green lynx spiders live in the pavilion all year, unlike the orbweavers brought in for the season.

À éviter si

You're arachnophobic: about 300 orbweavers sit on open webs along the path, with no glass between you.

Avec des enfants

Educators on the path answer kids' questions, and the spiders are shy and stay on their webs. The $10 pavilion ticket is per person and on top of museum admission.
