Le National Museum of Egyptian Civilization (NMEC), inauguré le 3 avril 2021, se trouve dans le quartier historique de Fustat, dans le Vieux Caire, au bord du lac Ain El-Sira. S'étendant sur environ 14 hectares, c'est le premier musée du monde arabe consacré à l'ensemble de l'histoire d'une civilisation. Sa collection de 50 000 pièces est répartie en galeries thématiques consacrées à l'Aube de la civilisation, au Nil, à l'Écriture, à l'État et la société, à la Culture matérielle, ainsi qu'aux Croyances et à la pensée. La pièce maîtresse en est la Royal Mummies Hall, au niveau inférieur, qui abrite 22 momies royales — dont celles de Ramsès II, Hatchepsout et Thoutmôsis III — transférées depuis l'Egyptian Museum de Tahrir Square lors de la célèbre Parade dorée des pharaons de 2021. Le musée comprend également un musée du textile, un ancien atelier de teinture, des salles d'expositions temporaires, une bibliothèque, un café et une boutique de souvenirs.
