Fondé en 1810 et installé depuis 1889 dans un imposant bâtiment de l'Invalidenstraße, le Museum für Naturkunde compte parmi les plus grands musées d'histoire naturelle au monde. Cet institut de recherche Leibniz abrite quelque 30 millions de spécimens. Sa salle des dinosaures est dominée par Giraffatitan brancai, le plus haut squelette de dinosaure monté au monde, aux côtés de l'Archaeopteryx le plus complet jamais découvert. Au-delà des dinosaures, les visiteurs peuvent contempler un million de spécimens conservés dans l'éthanol au sein de la Wet Collection, admirer minéraux et météorites, ou encore observer en direct des chercheurs numériser des insectes dans les galeries.
