Construida entre 1869 y 1875 por el arquitecto Henri Parent como residencia del banquero y coleccionista Édouard André y de la pintora de sociedad Nélie Jacquemart, la mansión fue legada al Institut de France y abrió sus puertas como museo en 1913. Sus salas, ricamente decoradas, exhiben obras maestras del Renacimiento italiano de Botticelli, Mantegna, Uccello y Bellini, junto a pinturas francesas del siglo XVIII y obras flamencas de Rembrandt y Frans Hals.
