Fundado en 1913, Boston Children's Museum es el segundo museo infantil más antiguo de Estados Unidos y ocupa desde 1979 su sede frente al agua en Children's Wharf, junto a Fort Point Channel. En la plaza exterior se alza la Hood Milk Bottle, un puesto de helados de madera de más de doce metros de altura y casi siete toneladas de peso construido en Taunton en 1933 e instalado aquí en 1977, convirtiéndose en uno de los monumentos más insólitos de Boston. En el interior, tres plantas de propuestas interactivas abarcan desde el New Balance Foundation Climb —una escultura escalable de tres pisos de Luckey Climber creada para el museo en 1985— hasta Kyo-no-Machiya, una auténtica casa de dos plantas de un comerciante de seda de Kioto, donada por la ciudad hermana de Boston y ensamblada in situ por carpinteros japoneses. Las exposiciones exploran la ciencia, la ingeniería, el arte, la cultura, la salud y el juego en la primera infancia, con espacios dedicados exclusivamente a niños menores de tres años.
