La Gemäldegalerie de los Staatliche Museen zu Berlin alberga una de las colecciones de pintura europea más importantes del mundo del siglo XIII al XVIII, con obras maestras de van Eyck, Dürer, Holbein, Rafael, Tiziano, Caravaggio, Rembrandt y Vermeer. Cerca de un millar de obras se exhiben en las 72 salas con luz natural del edificio de 1998, proyectado por Hilmer & Sattler en el Kulturforum, dispuestas por escuelas y épocas alrededor de un gran vestíbulo central. Sus fondos de pintura alemana y flamenca primitiva figuran entre los más destacados a nivel internacional.
