Der Palacio de Cristal wurde 1887 als Gewächshaus für exotische Pflanzen von den Philippinen erbaut. Die Konstruktion aus Eisen und Glas hat den Grundriss eines griechischen Kreuzes und ruht auf einem mit Keramikfliesen verzierten Backsteinsockel; ihre Kuppel ragt mehr als 22 Meter über einem See im Retiro Park auf. Das Gebäude wird vom Museo Nacional Centro de Arte Reina Sofía als eine seiner Spielstätten betrieben und ist kostenlos zugänglich. Das Innere ist wegen Restaurierungsarbeiten bis voraussichtlich 2027 geschlossen; währenddessen umhüllt eine künstlerische Installation die Fassade. Bei schlechtem Wetter bleibt der Palast geschlossen.
