Das 1819 am Paseo del Prado eröffnete Museo Nacional del Prado beherbergt Spaniens nationale Sammlung europäischer Malerei und Skulptur vom 12. bis zum frühen 20. Jahrhundert. Zu den unvergleichlichen spanischen Beständen zählen Velázquez’ Las Meninas, Goyas Pinturas Negras (Schwarze Gemälde) und die weltweit bedeutendste Bosch-Sammlung, ergänzt durch Meisterwerke von Tizian, Rubens und El Greco.
