Mera、Don與Jason Rubell自1964年起持續收藏當代藝術,並於2022年將部分館藏引進華盛頓,在Southwest街區開闢佔地32,000平方呎的展覽空間。這座建築前身為歷史悠久的黑人公立學校Randall Junior High School,建於1906年,並於1978年停辦;Rubell家族於2010年向Corcoran Gallery of Art購得物業,並委託Beyer Blinder Belle進行翻新,將課室還原至紅磚牆、鋼構與挑高大窗的質樸格局。傳奇歌手Marvin Gaye曾在此就讀,開館展覽《What's Going On》(What's Going On)亦正是以此命名。展館幾乎每年都會全面更換展品,因此牆上所展出的作品極少重複——持特區居民身分證明文件者更可享免費入場。
