St. Peter's Basilica 是全球最大的教堂，亦可謂基督教世界最重要的建築瑰寶，座落於使徒 Peter 相傳的長眠之地。現存建築歷時 120 年興建（1506–1626 年），匯聚了 Bramante、Raphael、Michelangelo、Maderno 與 Bernini 等大師的心血結晶。當中由 Michelangelo 設計的標誌性穹頂（於其身後完工），至今仍是建築史上最為人熟知的輪廓之一。 步入堂內，其宏闊規模令人讚嘆——中殿長達 186 米，圓頂距離地面更高達 136 米。由 Bernini 打造、覆蓋於教宗祭壇之上的聖體傘（baldachin）高達 29 米，置身於浩瀚空間之中卻絲毫不顯突兀。Michelangelo 於 24 歲時雕鑿的《聖母憐子像》（Pietà）安放於右側首間小堂，是世上極具感染力的雕塑名作之一。底層的 Vatican Grottoes 安葬了歷任教宗的陵墓；若登上圓頂頂端，既可將 Rome 的壯麗全景盡收眼底，亦能以令人屏息的俯瞰視角直視教堂內部。 教堂雖免費開放，但絕非一趟能隨意前來的參觀。在旅遊旺季，安檢人龍往往長達一小時（建議盡早出發，盡量於 08:00 前抵達）。場內嚴格執行著裝要求，參觀者不得露出肩膀或膝蓋。此外，請注意此處為持續運作的宗教聖地，每日皆會舉行彌撒，部分區域或會在儀式期間暫時封閉。
