Fondato dal re Luís nel 1863 e ospitato dal 1962 nel complesso del Monastero dos Jerónimos, il Museu de Marinha racconta la storia del Portogallo e del mare attraverso la navigazione militare, mercantile, peschereccia e da diporto. Delle oltre 18.000 opere della collezione, circa 2.500 sono esposte: dai modelli di navi dell’epoca delle scoperte e dagli strumenti di navigazione agli appartamenti reali dello yacht Amélia. L’ampio Pavilhão das Galeotas custodisce galeoni reali del XVIII secolo, imbarcazioni tradizionali e l’idrovolante Santa Cruz, che nel 1922 completò la prima traversata aerea dell’Atlantico meridionale.
