Inaugurato nel 2004 nell'ex circolo ufficiali della Landwehr (1909), un imponente edificio neoclassico di fronte alla stazione di Bahnhof Zoo, il Museum für Fotografie è condiviso dalla Helmut Newton Foundation e dalla Photography Collection della Kunstbibliothek (Staatliche Museen zu Berlin). La Newton Foundation occupa il piano terra e il primo piano con mostre temporanee dedicate a Helmut Newton e ad Alice Springs, mentre al piano superiore, nella restaurata Kaisersaal, la Kunstbibliothek allestisce esposizioni tratte dal proprio archivio.
