Costruito tra il 1877 e il 1881 da Martin Gropius e Heino Schmieden come museo delle arti applicate di Berlino, il Gropius Bau fu gravemente danneggiato nel 1945 e riaperto nel 1981 dopo un attento restauro. Oggi è gestito dai Berliner Festspiele e non possiede una collezione permanente: ospita grandi mostre temporanee e performance di artisti contemporanei. Al piano terra, BAUBAU di Kerstin Brätsch è uno spazio gioco a ingresso gratuito dedicato ai bambini.
