El National Hangeul Museum abrió sus puertas en 2014 junto al National Museum of Korea, en Yongsan, y recorre la historia del hangeul —el sistema de escritura coreano creado por el rey Sejong el Grande en 1443— a través de la caligrafía, manuscritos históricos y salas interactivas. Su colección, de unos 90.000 objetos, abarca desde la creación del alfabeto y su supresión durante el dominio colonial hasta su alcance global en la actualidad, e incluye un museo infantil propio y un centro de aprendizaje del hangeul. Un incendio ocurrido durante las obras de ampliación el 1 de febrero de 2025 causó graves daños al edificio. El museo permanece cerrado mientras se llevan a cabo reparaciones estructurales y obras de ampliación, y tiene previsto reabrir en octubre de 2028. Entretanto, las exposiciones y los programas educativos continúan en sedes colaboradoras repartidas por Seúl.
