Under a laurel crown painted in trompe-l'oeil on the vault of the Sala delle Colonne lie the fabrics Duilio Cambellotti collected: Anatolian cloth bought in Constantinople in 1898, a child's Ottoman bodice stitched in gilt silver thread, a Chinese silk with horses and riders. Restored, they are on show for the first time.

The three Cambellotti Rooms were painted in 1925 and 1926 to hold the flags of regiments disbanded after the First World War. Foliage, horses, shields and banners share the vaults with no rank between them. Drawings, temperas and posters from his archive sit beneath, and you walk through to a soundtrack of flags in the wind and galloping hooves.

The director calls it deliberately compact, closer to the story of a self-taught artist than a retrospective, so fold it into a castle visit. It's included in the €18 castle ticket and closes 25 October. Some rooms are hard to reach with limited mobility; there is a virtual tour, Braille texts and tactile copies.
