Fundado en 1867 por real decreto de Isabel II, el Museo Arqueológico Nacional (MAN) recorre el pasado de la península ibérica desde la prehistoria hasta los inicios de la Edad Moderna. Comparte su imponente edificio neoclásico del siglo XIX, diseñado por Francisco Jareño, con la Biblioteca Nacional de España, junto a la Plaza de Colón. Sus colecciones abarcan la España ibérica, romana, visigoda, andalusí y cristiana, además de antigüedades egipcias, del Próximo Oriente y griegas, articuladas en torno a piezas emblemáticas como la Dama de Elche y el tesoro visigodo de Guarrazar. Una profunda remodelación llevada a cabo entre 2008 y 2014 modernizó las salas y su recorrido cronológico.
