In En Trance you crawl through a set of doors: one starts low and rises, the other narrows until you're on your knees. Ono hands you a task, and the work isn't finished until you do it.

There are 67 works from seventy years, from the instruction pieces of her 1964 book Grapefruit to films and big installations. They spill out of Galleries -2 and -3 into the garden and the Atlı Köşk calligraphy gallery. At My Mommy Is Beautiful you write something about your mother and pin it to the canvas. Out on the lawn a staircase climbs toward the sky, and reaching it means stepping onto the grass, in a city that taught you to obey every "Çimlere basmayınız" sign.

Al-Monitor said the museum "has never hosted anything quite like" it, "and neither, frankly, has Turkey." Yabangee found it overly earnest in places but effective. Entry is free on Tuesdays; it's open Tuesday to Sunday, 10:00 to 18:00, until 27 December.

Recomendación de la redacción

You crawl through En Trance's doors until you're on your knees, then pin a note about your mother to My Mommy Is Beautiful. Al-Monitor said Turkey has never hosted anything quite like it. Come to take part, not just look.
