El National Museum of Egyptian Civilization (NMEC), inaugurado el 3 de abril de 2021, se encuentra en el histórico distrito de Fustat, en el Old Cairo, a orillas del lago Ain El-Sira. Con una extensión de unas 14 hectáreas, es el primer museo del mundo árabe dedicado a recorrer la historia completa de una civilización. Su colección, de 50.000 piezas, se organiza en galerías temáticas dedicadas al Amanecer de la Civilización, el Nilo, la Escritura, el Estado y la Sociedad, la Cultura Material, y las Creencias y el Pensamiento. La pieza central es la Royal Mummies Hall, en el nivel inferior, que alberga 22 momias reales —entre ellas las de Ramesses II, Hatshepsut y Thutmose III— trasladadas desde el Egyptian Museum de Tahrir Square durante el célebre Golden Parade de 2021. El museo cuenta además con un museo textil, una antigua casa de teñido, salas de exposiciones temporales, una biblioteca, cafetería y tienda de regalos.
