El Giza Pyramid Complex se alza en el límite del desierto occidental, con vistas a El Cairo, y es el yacimiento arqueológico más emblemático de Egipto. Construido durante la Cuarta Dinastía del Reino Antiguo (c. 2613–2494 a. C.), el complejo se articula en torno a tres pirámides monumentales: la Gran Pirámide de Keops (146,5 m de altura originalmente, la estructura más alta del mundo durante 3.800 años), la Pirámide de Kefrén (143,5 m, que aún conserva parte del revestimiento original de piedra caliza en la cúspide) y la más pequeña Pirámide de Micerino (65 m). La Gran Esfinge, esculpida en roca viva con cuerpo de león y cabeza humana, custodia el acceso oriental. Alrededor de las pirámides principales se encuentran pirámides menores de reinas, tumbas mastaba de nobles, templos funerarios y del valle, calzadas procesionales y los restos de un poblado de trabajadores. El sitio forma parte del conjunto declarado Patrimonio de la Humanidad por la UNESCO Memphis and its Necropolis, inscrito en 1979. Los visitantes pueden recorrer la meseta, acceder al interior de algunas pirámides (por turnos) y contemplar la Esfinge y los templos asociados.
