Inaugurado en 2004 en el antiguo casino de oficiales del Landwehr (1909), un edificio neoclásico situado frente a Bahnhof Zoo, el Museum für Fotografie acoge conjuntamente a la Helmut Newton Foundation y a la Colección de Fotografía de la Kunstbibliothek (Staatliche Museen zu Berlin). La Helmut Newton Foundation ocupa la planta baja y el primer piso con exposiciones temporales consagradas a Helmut Newton y Alice Springs, mientras que la Kunstbibliothek presenta muestras de sus propios fondos en la planta superior, en el restaurado Kaisersaal. La monumental serie Big Nudes de Newton da la bienvenida a los visitantes en el vestíbulo superior.
