A tribute to disco's roots in Black, Latino and queer underground clubs, with tracks, videos, art, fashion and design celebrating freedom.

A MiniMoog synthesizer, a Roland drum machine and a guitar signed by Nile Rodgers sit among the objects on an 835 m² floor, which has been turned over to disco.

The show was made by the Musée de la Musique at the Philharmonie de Paris and has been adapted for Amsterdam with Dutch context. It follows disco from the underground clubs of New York to a worldwide culture built on freedom, inclusivity and self-expression, through hundreds of tracks, videos, art, fashion and design. In the Soul Train room you dance under the lights to original footage of the 1970s TV dance floor. Jerney Kaagman wore the metallic blue catsuit on show in the Weekend video in 1979 and again on Idols in 2008, a longer run than any going-out top you own.

It also covers the "Disco Sucks" backlash and the AIDS epidemic. Open Tuesday to Sunday, 10:00 to 17:00; adults pay €18 online or €20 at the desk, and you can walk in without booking.
