You start as an audience. A newsreader with a blue, star-flecked face sits at a glossy desk between bunches of orange roses and reads the day's top stories in Sin Wai Kin's video, while across the room old phones, keyboards and computer cases pour out of a corner like the clear-out after the end.

The title comes from Cormac McCarthy's The Road, and the 20 artists are all from the Arter Collection, from Nam June Paik and Wolf Vostell to a Gerhard Richter and Sigmar Polke collaboration. Past that first encounter the works look apocalyptic but point at slower things the press text names: radiation, global warming, hydrocarbons, plastics. The curator's question is why the end of the world is easier to picture than the end of the systems decaying around us.

No reviews have appeared yet. It fills Gallery 3 on the third floor. Tickets are 450 TL, free for under-24s and for everyone on Thursdays, when Arter stays open until 20:00.

  • Sin Wai Kin, Today's Top Stories (2020)

A newsreader with a painted blue, star-flecked face reads from a sheet at a glossy desk banked with orange and yellow roses, a huge turquoise sun behind, in a six-and-a-half-minute video.

  • The pile of discarded devices

Beige keyboards, old telephones and computer casings tumble out of a corner of the tall white gallery, the cascade the press text likens to the aftermath of the end.

  • Wolf Vostell, TV-Cancer BB1 (1970)

A TV newsreader at his desk, a world map behind him, screenprinted small in the middle of a whole bed sheet two and a half metres wide.

  • Necla Rüzgar, God's Birds (2013)

A thousand small painted polyester birds, streaked brown and grey like sparrows, lie heaped on their backs and sides across the floor.

  • Can Altay, Deposit (2010)

In a black room, a round mirrored table 1.6 metres across on a steel frame, with speakers and a CD player built in, catches a single pool of light.
