Zwischen 1723 und 1726 für Kaiser Karl VI. nach Plänen von Johann Bernhard Fischer von Erlach erbaut und von seinem Sohn Joseph Emanuel vollendet, zählt der Prunksaal zu den prachtvollsten historischen Bibliothekssälen der Welt. Unter dem Kuppelfresko von Daniel Gran, das die Apotheose des Kaisers zeigt, bergen Regale aus Nussbaumholz rund 200.000 zwischen 1501 und 1850 gedruckte Bände – darunter die rund 15.000 Bücher umfassende Bibliothek des Prinzen Eugen von Savoyen. Marmorstatuen der Brüder Strudel und vier prachtvolle Globen von Vincenzo Coronelli schmücken den Saal, der zudem den Rahmen für bedeutende Wechselausstellungen der Bibliothek bildet.
